Q: What kind of time commitment will this take?
A: Members are expected to attend every rehearsal and performance possible. However, we understand that sometimes family
and other life commitments need to take precedence. To that end, we have no attendence policy except before Contests where
everyone needs to attend six out of eight rehearsals -- this includes any additional rehearsals that may be called.
Q: What kind of financial commitment will this take?
A: We have monthly dues of $22. This is payable annually, monthly, quarterly, weekly...whatever is the most convenient
for the member and will cover ALL normal expenses including International dues, Area dues and chorus expenses. A $25 costume
deposit is expected during those times when a special chorus costume is in use. This is returned if and when a member needs
to leave the chorus. We have a points system which assists in expenses associated with Contest expenses and an "Angel Fund"
which assists when a member finds it difficult to pay monthly dues when financial distress occurs. Atlanta Harmony Celebration!
doesn't believe that lack of finances should keep you from being a part of this group.
Q: It seems so overhwelming at first. How can I catch up on the chorus repertoire?
A: We have learning tapes (mp3s) for new member's use. We also meet early on the third Thursday of each month to learn
notes, if necessary. Our director sends out a monthly schedule of what songs will be worked on so that members can be prepared.
Q: Is an audition necessary to join?
A: An audition is necessary to determine 1.) that the prospective member is singing the right voice part and 2.) to determine
the personal skill set and vocal opportunities of that prospective member.
After 3-4 rehearsals, a prospective member will be asked if they are ready to audition. The actual audition process consists
of the prospective member singing a song of their choice in a psuedo-quartet environment. This means that they will sing their
part in a quartet BUT another member of their section will stand with them in case they have a problem. After this is finished,
the prospective member will be asked to complete a vocal inventory which tests the range, vocal clarity and intonation skills
of the prospective member.
There is a $5 audition fee which offsets the cost of the new member's kit which includes a membership pin. If the audition
is unsuccessful, this is refunded.
